Welcome to the Ipswich Community Development Plan Project Site!

The Town of Ipswich is embarking on a multi-year process to update its Community Development Plan (CDP), which was first adopted in 2003 and amended in 2008.

What is a Community Development Plan (CDP)? A Community Development Plan (CDP) is a long-range visionary strategic plan designed to guide future planning efforts and a community's overall physical evolution. Ipswich's CDP will focus on four main elements:

  • Housing
  • Economic Development
  • Transportation
  • Public Infrastructure and Climate Change Resiliency

In addition to an analysis of current and future needs across these four areas, the CDP will contain town-wide vision, goals, and implementation strategies for community development for the next ten years.

When will it be completed? The project is being completed in two phases. Phase I will focus on identifying the community's needs and envisioning the future of Ipswich. Phase II will focus on implementation and strategies. Phase I is anticipated to wrap up in Fall 2019 -- and Phase II will kick off at the end of 2019.

Who is involved?

  • The Town of Ipswich Planning Department
  • a 26-person Working Group comprised of the Planning Board and Ipswich residents
  • JM Goldson community preservation + planning / Project Manger; Housing; Economic Development; and Community Outreach
  • Fraser Polytechnical Engineering Services / Transportation
  • Weston & Sampson / Public Infrastructure and Climate Change Resiliency
